Russell Norman

Russell has a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry with over 25 years’ experience as an Industrial Chemist working within the manufacturing sector.  He holds several patents within the household cleaning product sector.  Areas of expertise include proprietary surfactant-based cleaning, re-odourising and biocidal products, sold across global markets and in compliance with a variety regulatory regimes and controls.   As an Industrial Chemist he was engaged and fully focused on sustainable chemistry attaining professional Practitioner membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

Since joining RPA in 2018, Russell has worked with clients in support of Authorisation under REACH for a diverse range of substances and their applied for uses within several market sectors.  He has experience of supply chain mapping via consultation and Analyses of Alternatives (AoAs) utilised in socio-economic impact assessments, and for determining technical and economic feasibility of substances or processes as alternatives to the incumbent technology.  More recently, Russell has been closely involved in RPA’s support and of a REACH Consortium seeking re-Authorisation of a suite of functional chemicals utilised within the Aerospace and Defence sector.

Regular engagement with key stakeholders within the value chain, coupled with over two decades experience working within the FMCG manufacturing sector, enables an understanding of impacts, costs, and benefits, to both industry and society, of substances governed by regulatory processes tied to uses within industrial, professional and retail sectors.
