RPA has also undertaken a range of other chemical and chemical policy related studies, including:

  • a review of the comparative risks associated with zeolite and phosphate-based detergents as well as more detailed analysis of some of the organic chemicals currently used in EU detergents (for DG Enterprise);
  • assessing the UK Voluntary Agreement for the Reduction in Risk from Nonylphenol, Nonylphenol Ethoxylates, Octylphenol and Octylphenol Ethoxylates (for Defra);
  • investigating the gaps in environmental regulation when considering the implications of the near-future use of Nanotechnologies (for Defra);  and
  • assessing the socio-economic impacts of the identification of priority hazardous substances under the Water Framework Directive (for European Commission, DG Environment).

RPA Director Pete Floyd has written the chapter “Future Perspectives in Risk Assessment of Chemicals” for “Chemicals in the Environment:  Assessing and Managing Risk” (Harrison RM & Hester RE (2006), Royal Society of Chemicals, London). 

RPA Director Meg Postle has prepared the report, Cost-Benefit Analysis and Chemical Risk Management” published by the International Council on Mining and Metals.
