Environment Agency Economics Framework

Risk & Policy Analysts (RPA) have again been awarded a place on the Environment Agency’s National Framework Agreement for Applied Environmental Economics, which will cover environmental and ecosystem service valuation, cost-benefit analysis, economic appraisal and impact assessment across the complete range of EA work.  Read More.

Nanomaterials on the EU Market

The European Commission (DG Enterprise and Industry) has commissioned RPA and BiPRO GmbH to undertake a study to support the Commission on the preparation of an impact assessment to identify and develop the most adequate way to increase transparency and ensure regulatory oversight for nanomaterials.   The first stage examined the impacts of the French Notification System (FNS) and the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP). 

Since then, the European Commission has conducted a Public Consultation on nanomaterials which may be accessed via RPA's website.  Read more.


Coal Authority Mine Water Treatment Study

Risk & Policy Analysts (RPA) have been awarded a dual contract by the Coal Authority to undertake benefits assessments for mine water treatment at eight case study sites, including former coal mines and metalliferous mines, within Britain. Read more.

Online Consumer Reviews of Hotels (DG SANCO)

RPA has been contracted by the European Commission (DG Health and Consumers) to carry out a study on the use of online consumer reviews of hotels, consumers’ reliance on such reviews and possible harm caused by biased presentation of reviews or fake reviews.  Please click here for more information.

European Consumer Policy Framework (DG Sanco)

RPA have been awarded a Framework Contract for the provision of evaluation, impact assessment and related services to the European Commission in the area of consumer protection.  This programme aims to build on the previous Framework Contract (SANCO/2008/01/055) by focusing action on the empowerment of the consumer through safety, information and education, rights and redress and enforcement actions.

Mobile Telephone Chargers Harmonisation (DG Ent)

DG Enterprise and Industry have contracted RPA to carry out an evaluation of the effectiveness, efficiency, utility and sustainability of the European Commission's Memorandum of Understanding of 2009 which promotes the harmonisation of chargers for mobile telephones and, indirectly, other small portable electronic devices and their chargers.  Stakeholdes are being asked for their views - read more.

Natural England Framework Contract

RPA have been enlisted to provide advice and guidance to Natural England's national specialists and operational team staff in relation to coastal risk management economics and standards of defence for coastal nature conservation assets which are at risk of flooding. This consultation forms part of a Framework Contract on Shoreline Management and Geomorphological Advice.

Consumer Credit Directive (CCD)
Risk & Policy Analysts (RPA) and its partners - Milieu and EPRD - were commissioned by the European Agency for Health and Consumers (EAHC) in cooperation with the European Commission (DG SANCO) to undertake an in-depth review of how Member States have implemented the legal choices which were provided under the CCD and what impacts may be attributable to these legal choices.

EU Semester Study (DG Env)

The European Commission contracted RPA to conduct a study on Economic and Social Benefits of Environmental Protection and Resource Efficiency for the DG Environment-led European Semester.  The final report has now been published and you can click here to read it, or find out more.

Marine Protected Areas (Defra)

Defra commissioned RPA, with support from BACC, Ichthys Marine and RSS Marine, to conduct a study entitled 'Value of the Impact of Marine Protected Areas on Recreation and Tourism Services' following the designation of national Marine Conservation Areas. Cableways Directive Impact Assessment (DG Ent)

A 2011 report by the European Commission identified a number of issues relating to the Cableways Directive (2000/9/EC) of 2004 and RPA were subsequently commissioned to conduct an impact assessment for the various options for revision.

In Memoriam – Jan Vernon

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Dr Jan Vernon who passed away unexpectedly in January 2013. She was much loved and respected as a friend, mentor and colleague by all at RPA over the 15 years that she was here. She was highly regarded by all who worked with her for her professional approach and integrity as well as her ever present sense of humour. She will be truly missed.
