Since 1996 he has mainly focussed on the study of the relationship between environmental agents and human health, including undertaking detailed assessments of the risk to humans of exposure to environmental agents present in soil, water and air, as well as on occupational health issues. Phil has also advised government on policy in relation to the new European chemicals regulation REACH, on childhood health and on alternatives to animal testing.
At RPA, Phil has particular responsibility for projects relating to human and environmental risks associated with chemicals and related agents including work for the UK Government, the European Chemicals Agency and the European Commission. Currently he is working on developing 'logic frameworks' for assessing the health and environmental benefits associated with restrictions on the use of chemicals.
