Meg Postle is a founding Director of RPA, with over 20 years of consultancy experience. With a background in environmental economics, Ms Postle has extensive experience in undertaking economic analyses of projects, programmes and policies, and has worked internationally in Hong Kong, China and Indonesia as well as throughout the EU.
She has been responsible for most of RPA’s work in the field of chemical risk management at UK, EU and international levels. This has included, for example, acting as the major author of a series of OECD guidance documents on socio-economic analysis in chemical risk management. She led RPA’s work on the business impact assessment and environmental and health impact assessments of REACH, the business impacts of introducing a Globally Harmonised System (GHS) for the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, various studies concerning the harmonisation of chemicals regulations across the EU and the development of Risk Reduction Strategies under the Existing Substances Regulation.
Ms Postle has also overseen and undertaken work on a wide range of other impact assessments carried out for the Commission and various national governments, for example on the regulation of pesticides, revisions to the Construction Products Directive, the Toy Safety Directive, the Directive covering the deliberate release of Genetically Modified Organisms, and the Water Framework Directive.
In the UK, Ms Postle has been at the core of developing appraisal methods for application to environmental issues. In particular, she has developed cost-benefit analysis based decision aiding methods for the UK Environment Agency. This has included overseeing RPA’s work to develop a methodology for even-handedly assessing the costs and economic impacts of measures required under the Water Framework Directive and preparation of guidance on the valuation of the environmental and social benefits of changes in water quality and water resources.
