Since joining Risk & Policy Analysts Ltd in 1998, she has managed studies for the European Commission, UK Government and international organisations to assess the impacts of national and EU environment and safety policies in the energy, chemicals, water and consumer policy areas. She led RPA’s work on the impacts of potential amendments to the WEEE and EuP Directives and has directed pan-European studies on EMAS, the Biocidal Products Directive and the impacts of REACH. She has also led projects covering a range of other EU policy areas including the Water Framework Directive, the EU Marine Strategy as well as regulations covering cosmetics, toys and electrical products.
Areas of particular expertise include:
- Business implications of environmental policy and regulation;
- Assessment of environmental costs and liabilities;
- Integration of sustainability issues into business management and finance;
- Environmental and social accounting and reporting; and
- Environmental and product safety issues for chemicals, energy, cosmetics and construction industries.
Dr Vernon has a keen interest in climate change issues and was the prime author of BSI's UK - Climate Change: A Manager’s Guide (2001) and Focus on Climate Change (2006) on the implications of climate change for UK businesses.
